A nice summary of our neighborhood history is Capitol Hill: A Short History, by Robert S. Pohl, included in the Fagon Guide to Capitol Hill (available online here).

For a more in-depth look at our history, see The Ruth Ann Overbeck Capitol Hill History Project  website. This Capitol Hill Community Foundation project was established to educate our community about its own history and social fabric.  Among other things, it collects oral histories from longtime Capitol Hill residents and former residents, to create a permanent, accessible, ongoing record of the people and events that have shaped our community. Their website also includes a comprehensive bibliography of Capitol Hill and D.C. history and many related links for those interested in the history of our neighborhood.
